It is a fact that today's city of Kiel was not founded in the 13th century, but at the end of the 19th. The old city of Kiel has been destroyed. The present city is of course partly on the site of the old one and also bears the same name, but it is a new city and one of the ugliest for sure.
“Kiel1242” is a committed hobby project.
It does not pursue any commercial interests and is currently financed exclusively from private funds.
Basically, a virtual 3D reconstruction of the city of Kiel in the Middle Ages is to be created.
With a VR headset, you can then wander around a medieval town.
In the blog you will find a complete documentation of the project (historical basics, technical implementation and much more).
“Kiel1242” is not a scientific treatise, but is intended to present a historically correct picture (see also bibliography and sources).
However, it is an overall view – the artefacts and buildings – may be displayed outside their actual time frame.
The period from the foundation (around 1242) to the Reformation (around 1530 in Kiel) is taken into account.
