Introduction

With this documentary I want to:

  • the historical context
  • operation of the 3D program “Kiel 1242”
  • and describe the technical implementation

Idea and project

After a phase of trial and error – in which I tested various ideas for feasibility – I will begin concrete research for a virtual 3D reconstruction of the medieval structures of the city of Kiel in 2021.

Why Kiel?

In Germany, and not least in Schleswig-Holstein, there are several cities that enchant us with their medieval flair – Kiel is definitely not one of them.

That’s what makes me curious.

I live in a city in which many historical buildings and artifacts were irretrievably destroyed due to the turmoil of the time, the Second World War and a city administration that ultimately had no resources or set other priorities(Albrecht & Feiler, 1996).
